Title: Government Building Energy Standards Bill

plqx - November 28, 2009 12:51 PM (GMT)
Under this bill, all government buildings will have to check their energy efficiency. This will include a check of the energy efficiency of all appliances within the building and the thickness of insulation in the building.

Each figure will then be adjusted to take into account the purpose of the building, and then given an index, whereby 100 is the most efficient any building of that sort could be, and 0 being the least efficient possible. Buildings will then be assigned a letter according to this scale:
95+ A*
85-94 A
75-84 B
70-74 C
65-69 D
60-64 E
50-59 F
<50 G

This information will then be made publicly available, and must be kept viewable either just inside or just outside the door at all times.

For any government building with a rating below a C, the responsible government authority must immediately set about bringing the building up to a C standard or better.

The cost of this bill is to be 10 budget units, to be included in the administration section of the budget.

Ten units?! That's a little much surely, when for just five more we could have an entire network of high-speed internet satellites...

EDIT: Ignore me, I forgot we were on the new system...

I strongly support this bill.
