Title: Environment Questions

Pokemaniac John - November 7, 2009 09:33 AM (GMT)
This is the parliamentary question time for questions to the Environment Secretary.

Members of the Commons may question the Environment Secretary on any issue relating to his department. Each member is limited to one question per week.

This House recognises Cieran as the Environment Secretary, and requests that he answers all questions posed to him.

This House recognises DynamoJax as the Shadow Environment Secretary, and as such grants him the right to ask six questions per week.

The government may only be asked to answer one question at a time - no new questions may be submitted until the previous one has been answered. If the government does not answer, action may be taken by the speaker of the commons.

I therefore open this session with the following question:

Will the Environment Secretary please tell us of his department's aims for this session of parliament?

Cieran - November 7, 2009 06:42 PM (GMT)
We aim to lay the foundations of a nuclear industry in Ostentia through the research of sites for a waste repository, with future plans to build this, followed some time in the distant future with construction of actual nuclear power plants, this however is a long-term goal and not one achievable in this term alone.

Further to this, I am currently looking into ways to reform hunting laws, more on this may be announced at a later date as details have not been finalised...

Pokemaniac John - November 7, 2009 06:49 PM (GMT)
I thank the Environment Secretary for his answer and open this session to the house.

Does the Minister of the Environment have any plans to utilize or expand other forms of energy, especially "renewable" energy sources such as solar, wind, hydro and geothermal instead of using nuclear energy as the sole source of new, cleaner energy?

Cieran - November 11, 2009 11:27 AM (GMT)
Not at present, I'm of the view that these are for the most part inefficient and poorly implemented, especially wind energy. With further deployment of nuclear energy, this will buy us time to research and improve renewable technologies for future use...
