Title: Potential Nuclear Waste Repository Bill

Cieran - October 26, 2009 02:21 PM (GMT)
Under this bill, a survey will be undertaken in order to locate the best site in Ostentia for a potential nuclear waste depository. Efforts will focus on Fondrop, as the least populous state, as well as the one with most open space, as well as geological stability.

This will cost approximately one budget unit, to come out of the Environment Budget, and will last for this term only, as it is simply a research exercise.

The aim is to essentially lay the groundwork for nuclear power in Ostentia. Currently we have no nuclear power facilities due to the absence of appropriate waste management. With a repository, as well as suitable transportation via the rail network, we can safely inter waste in remote and safe locations.

Note that this bill does not involve the actual building of a waste site, let alone the construction of nuclear facilities throughout Ostentia, merely the research with the possibility of building one in future.

[OOC: This is a vague reference to the Yucca Mountain facility in Nevada]...

Research is fine.... I suppose I can lean in favor of this bill.

What about anything further than research though?...

This bill has my full support, even though it is fairly likely that said site would be within my constituency.

Cieran - October 27, 2009 06:36 PM (GMT)
No it wouldn't, you're Falahn, not Fondrop :P...

Sorry, the "least populous state" bit was what lodged itself into my mind. I thought Falahn was the least populous state, and by quite some margin?

Cieran - October 28, 2009 11:09 AM (GMT)
Oh yeah, probably is, but I meant in terms of population density. Falahn isn't particularly large, Fondrop is. I think.

Anyway, we're not gonna be putting our waste into Mt Zenith any time soon anyway :P...

Right, it turns out I don't actually need to put this to a bill, as it only sets out research. I will however propose a statement motion in favour of the research...
