Poisoner Guilty, Receives Life, Breaks SilenceThe man accused of perpetrating Valaxia's recent poison murderers was today found guilty on ten counts of murder. On giving a life sentence in a maximum security prison, Justice Smith, court judge, told the man of his “despicable acts and wanton disregard for human life for an apparently political gain”. To his, and indeed the courtroom's, surprise, the man answered back, yelling, in a distinct Assymian accent “FOR ASSYM, FOR THE JUNTA, FOR THE NEW WORLD ORDER,” before being wrestled to the ground by court bailiffs and gagged. He was then escorted from the prison room, apparently acting as though his outburst had never happened. He was moved then to a prison in Nectaris, where he currently awaits transportation to the mainland and Apeiron District Maximum Security Containment Centre. And thus ends a sad chapter in the history of Valaxia. A man who brought terror to the islands for the better part of half a year is finally locked securely away, yet we must ask ourselves, how easy would it be for it to happen again? Clearly from his outburst, this is an attack intended to weaken the Ostentian people by the Assymian government. There is nothing to say they will not strike again, and with greater force. Valaxians may be safer from this assassin, but they remain potentially in the firing line of an Assymian assault.
PEC Polling Centre Experiencing ProblemsAstute readers may have noticed a recent lack of PEC polls. A recent change of location of PEC offices is apparently to blame for this, and they assure us that they hope to return to normality as soon as possible. They also with to remind us that there is no danger of them going away any time soon, and they will continue to provide their services once settled in a new location.
Police Officially Condemn VigilanteDespite finding great popularity with the people of Valaxia, and indeed with many in the ranks of the police force, the mystery vigilante who has been fighting crime across Valaxia for the last month has been officially condemned by Valaxian Police Commander Barry Staines. In a statement published on Saturday, Staines said that “while we appreciate the efforts of this mystery individual to fight crime, we remind individuals that it is not their place to take the law into their own hands. The police are here for a reason, to protect you, lawless vigilantism does nothing for our society”. Many have criticised Commander Staines' position however, including those in his own police force. Some of the principle criticisms have been that this is simply a case of jealousy, that the police have been unable to capture so many criminals despite superior manpower and resources and are being shown up by what appears to be a single figure acting alone. The plot thickens...
