OOC: Sorry about the late release.
SKY NEWS ANNOUNCER: We interrupt your programming to bring you a special speech called by the Prime Minister of Ostentia, Kay "DynamoJax" Jackson, who is about to speak in the House of Commons.
walks in with security detail, takes position at table
Greetings fellow Members of Parliament of this glorious House of Commons of the Federal Republic of Ostentia.
To those members of the public who are here today, I thank you for travelling from all across the states of Ostentia. For those of you watching on the television, I'd advise that you sit.
For everyone of Ostentia, what I am about to reveal is serious. I'd recommend that you remain calm throught this speech and through the next several weeks. Some of the things I will state may make you very euphoric, while others may make you very depressed. It is critical that we as a country remain level in temperment.
For about the past two weeks, we have engaged in dialogue with the UCCR, of which we were able to obtain formal relations. This momentous step has been already documented and announced with great success. We also received word from "The Collective", the governing body of the UCCR that they would be willing to reduce tariffs on Ostentian goods if we are willing to do the same. Such a treaty simply needs a quick exchange of dialog prior to introduction in the Commons. With any luck, this should be done in time of the dissolution, but it cannot be guaranteed. Regardless of the outcome of the upcoming election, I stress to all parties in the Commons, and to the people of Ostentia who support these parties to push for this treaty. The door is now open. It is us who must walk through it.
However, if what I have just described is considered "good news", then what I am about to say is... not so good news.
On the twelfth of July, our Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of the Ministry of State and Foreign Affairs King Zog II requested some Ostentian explorers to be deployed to the north of the country of Topanto. Twelve days later, on the twenty-fourth of July, we had not heard a reply back from the explorers. A search party was to be organized, but was halted prior to deployment.
The reason for why the search team was halted was made instantly clear on the twenty-seventh of July. The Government, specifically the cabinet, received a package with several photographs with the aformentioned explorers in some sort of prison. The package included a note, which read thus:
| QUOTE (Note) |
To the Ostentian scum,
Your scouting party are not welcome with us. Interference from you to us is not tolerated. This is considered an act of war. Now have your just dessert and eat it.
From, Your future overlords at Assym. |
Before one must go on to explain the implications of this, one must explain who Assym is. Assym is a country north of Topanto and east of Mapanganibayan. According to several sources, the country of Assym has considerable military might and are considered a threat to other nations, considering their goal is world domination. Reports also indicate that Assym dedicates most of their resources to weaponry, and their country is starving due to lack of food.
In addition, Assym is now successfully identified as the "menace" that has been paining the UCCR and Christophia. Also, some sources have indicated that Assym may be responsible for the June 2009 Ostentian coup. Inevitable's note that his "identity theives" which impersonated him did not have any sort of an Ostentian accent would collaborate this.
Now that Assym's identity has been established, I now turn to what the government, especially the Cabinet has been doing. We have been in discussion with several countries with formal relations in order to determine an appropriate course of action. Every waking moment is spent working towards one goal: Neutralizing the Assym threat to Ostentia, either with or without violence. As a result, considerations are being made to enlarging our armed forces, primarily to defend Ostentia and to prepare for any offensives, either in the near or far future, as well as to secure the safe passage home for our explorers if at all possible. As a side note, King Zog II has been very helpful in facilitating these discussions, and as for his role in deploying the explorers to the north of Topanto, he (as well as I or anyone else) had little, if any knowledge of Assym prior to deployment.
As for what the public can do, I advise that we all go about our lives. It is very possible that Assym would want us to live in fear, and we cannot grant them that. We must remain confident, but vigilant.
Before I arrived to make my speech, a AAPA backbencher MP from Valaxia suggested I declare a state of emergency. While this would seem like an employable option, I am against it. A state of emergency is for dire situations. We are only in a serious situation. In addition, we are rapidly approaching elections, as mentioned before. We cannot abridge democracy. If we were to declare emergency, then we could very well become like Assym, even if it was a for a short period of time. As a result, the upcoming elections will be held at their scheduled time.
With all of this stated, I thank you all for your participation and consideration during this speech. Thank you all.
